First Date Checklist (for Brady)

1. Clean your car but don’t over-Armour-all it.  Women like clean, not slick and greasy

2. Find something genuine to compliment her on when you see her and avoid these juvenile adjectives: ‘smokin’, ‘tight’, ‘hot’, or ‘sweet’.  Just say something like, “that dress looks fantastic on you”.  Also avoid smacking your lips, saying ‘what you would like to do to your date’, and shaking your head back and forth and adding ‘mmm, mmm, mmm’.  She is your date, not a ribeye steak or a slab of ribs

3. Open her car door (you should do this until you go to the grave)

4. Don’t get in the car and say “what did you have in mind tonight?”  Women like decisive men that remember the little details that you probably talked about on the phone a few days earlier.  That conversation should have told you exactly where to go.

5. No swearing

6. Make your first date a dinner, it’s a safe choice.  You can see how her manners are.  You will be able to tell if she can hold a conversation for more than thirty minutes.  If she orders the most expensive thing, make that your last date, trust me.

7. If you are going to dinner, always call a day before (or more), speak to the manager, and let them know you want their quietest/most romantic spot.  Ask them to leave a note with your name on the table (this will show your date that she is important and that you are a planner) and add that your table will be an “automatic 25% tip unless something goes horribly wrong, but I trust it won’t” .

8. Over dinner, make sure and keep the conversation dialogue flowing at a 50/50 ratio or better (for you) a 70/30 (with you listening 70% of the time).  Do not bring up past relationships unless she asks and even then, be brief, let the attention be on her.

9. If the night went well, go to a small coffee shop for dessert.  The mom and pop shops usually have couch’s or big fluffy chairs perfect for longer conversation.  If the date didn’t go well, tell her you had an nice time, but that you just didn’t feel a connection.  Most women will respect that and hate it when guys don’t call back.  Be a man

10. If the date went really well, write her a note about the date as a memento.  I have every note your mother ever wrote.  If she is the one, this will be a cherished item forever

11. If you didn’t drive her home, call and make sure she made it home alright.  This will let her know you truly had a good time and that you care.  Before you say goodbye, ask her if you can call her the next day.  I know guys will tell you that calling the next day is ‘weak’ or ‘lame’ and that you need her to ‘chase you’, but trust me, if you have to play games like that, then she isn’t the one
